Fairport – Robert E. “Bob” Shepard

May 23, 1944 – January 31, 2026

Robert E. (Bob) Shepard passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Doris; his children Robert (Dawn), William (Ruth), and Randy; grandchildren Lisa, Madi, Nick, Ashley, Samantha, Brandon, and Katrina; great‑grandchildren Tyler and Bryan; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Whether you knew him as Dad, G Pops, Uncle Bob, just Bob, or simply met him by chance in a store, people always said the same thing—he was one of the kindest souls they had ever met. And if Bob teased you, you knew you were loved; that was his signature way of showing it.

Bob enjoyed many interests throughout his life, from men’s bowling leagues to his lifelong passion for watching hockey. He was always tinkering around the house—so much so that when it was time to leave, the family’s familiar question was, “Where’s Bob?” When he found a hobby, he embraced it wholeheartedly. Whether it was photography, candle‑making, or building his model train collection, he dove in with enthusiasm every time.

In retirement, Bob and his bride cherished traveling, playing cards with friends, and trying their luck at penny slots in casinos. Above all, Bob adored his children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter and could always be found cheering them on in whatever they pursued.

Bob began his transportation career as a driver for Regional Transit Service, later becoming a supervisor and eventually Director of Operations. In the early 1980s, he left RTS to help establish the transportation system in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Upon returning home, he served as Director of Transportation for Fairport Central Schools, where he dedicated 18 years until his retirement in 2002.

Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, February 8, from 4:00–6:30 PM at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, February 9, 2026 11AM at White Haven Cemetery All Seasons Chapel, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY, followed by interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Perinton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 1400 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY 14450.

  4. I was a single 23 year old, recent college grad when I hit the jackpot and moved in across the street from Bob and Doris. For 10 years you were both an integral part of our lives (which consisted of a marriage and 3 kids by the time we moved). Bob was always willing to help and treated us like family. He will be remembered as one of the greats and how lucky you all were to have him. Thinking of you all.
