On Monday December 19th, 2022, Thomas P. Sheridan passed away at the age of 72.
Tom was born in Levittown, New York on September 27, 1950. He was the second of seven children born to Michael & Marion Sheridan. A big brother and friend to many, Tom was active in sports while growing up. He played Lacrosse, football and ran track. He also served as an altar boy at church as a kid and was active in various community activities. Long Island pizza
was one of Tom’s favorite things and he was very proud to have worked at the pizza shop around the corner from his parents house while growing up.
Tom went to SUNY Brockport where he studied to be a physical education teacher. Upon moving to Rochester he met the love of his life, Arlene Donofrio. They were married on June 29, 1974 and began to build a life together in Rochester.
Tom had a love of automobiles and was an avid race car driver at Spencer Speedway. After living in Spencerport for several years, Tom followed his dream of owning a farm and moved the family to Fairport, New York. There he raised cows, goats, horses and chickens.
Through the years, Tom kept very busy. He taught auto mechanics at Monroe BOCES Rush Campus. He was a service manager and also opened his own mechanic shop called Sheridan Auto and Tire Center. Tom was a farmer, coach, lacrosse referee and a collector of model cars and hats.
Tom was a beloved husband, father and friend to many, however his greatest joy in life came when he became a grandfather. His grandkids, who lovingly refer to him as Bubba, were the light of this life. He loved going to their sporting and school events, taking them for walks and fishing at the pond, and of course riding around the property on his Gator. Halloween was his
favorite time of year and he loved dressing up with his grandchildren. Aubrey, Hailey, Joey, Violet, Harry, Michael, Maggie, Elena and Nora truly lit up his world and he enjoyed every minute he spent with them.
Tom is predeceased by his parents Michael J. & Marion Sheridan; in laws Gaetano & Salvatrice Donofrio; Brother in Laws Robert Knowles, Richard McKinney, and Ralph Porcelli; and niece Diane Knowles.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Arlene; his daughters Angela (Markus) Bolze, Jennifer (Joe) Caruso, and son Thomas P. (Katheryn) Sheridan II. His Brother John (Elizabeth) Sheridan, Sisters Gladys Knowles, Margaret (Frank) Marenghi, Lorraine Porcelli, Linda Sheridan, Marion (Fred) Gray. Brother in law Guy (Kelly) Donofrio and dear friends Bob and Mary Chase who’s farm he loved selling berries at and giving tractor rides over the summers. He is remembered with love by many nieces and nephews and friends near and far and of course by his adoring grandchildren.

We were so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. It was a pleasure working with him at BOCES. His ability to relate to students made him a great teacher. He was always able to put students and friends at ease with his easy going manner, entertaining stories and friendly attitude toward life. He was just fun to be around. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Arlene and his children and grandchildren.
Tom was a very special teacher at BOCES Rush Campus—so loved by all the young teenagers who through him learned so many lessons about life. Tom was so loved by all of the staff there as well. It was a pleasure knowing such a wonderful, caring man. God bless him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone else that knew him.
Tom was a man of many talents. He was a tremendous advocate for students at Rush Campus, teaching young adults in the mechanics shop. Tom had a contagious smile and always shared a story. He made a difference in the lives of students and athletes he worked with over the years, I was honored to work with Tom and valued our time together. Husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, farmer and friend; Tom lived a rich and full life. Our thoughts to Arlene, the kids and grandchildren. We are thankful to have shared time with such a wonderful man.
