Sean Kevin Smith, 55, of Fairport, New York, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of family, after a courageous, long, and difficult battle with an illness.
Born on July 18, 1969 to Randy and Cathy Smith, Sean grew up in a bustling home in Wantagh, New York. He ran track, wrestled, and played soccer in his youth and was a talented athlete, traveling to England, Scotland, and Wales with the Wantagh Eagles Soccer Club in the summer of 1986. He was an accomplished musician having taught himself guitar and was a wonderful singer and actor, starring in many lead roles at Wantagh High School and SUNY Plattsburgh in productions such as Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Motel the Tailor in Fiddler on the Roof, Rolf in The Sound of Music, and Jesus in Godspell. His band, “The Toasters” enjoyed many “jam sessions” and gave him another creative outlet for his music. He delighted many people with his musical gifts as he boldly sang from the pews in Mass on Sundays. Sean graduated from Wantagh High School in 1987 and from SUNY Plattsburgh with a B.S. in Communication and Marketing in 1993.
Sean loved animals, especially dogs and especially his pal Oz. He had a fierce sense of humor and he loved to laugh. He had a penchant for making others laugh and getting into mischief. He loved sports, especially the Mets, watching soccer and football, and was a Jets fan, but was swayed to love the Bills too. He was a force to be reckoned with when it came to the backyard grill.
Sean is survived by his children: Cade (Thomas) Smith and Sean Michael Smith, who meant the world to him, his loving mom, Cathy Smith, and his sister, Donna Jeanne (Rick) Wells and their children, Ty, Ashe, and Jameson. He is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and friends who were family.
Sean was preceded in death by his father, Randy Smith, his grandparents, Edward Farrell, Edna Farrell (the White Grandma), Robert Smith, and Helen Smith (the Blue Grandma),uncles Douglas and George Smith, his Aunt Louise Oliva, and two of his closest friends, Billy and Murm.
Family will receive callers at he Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home (Village Location), 41 South Main Street, Fairport, New York on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 5-7PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 18th at 11:15AM at Church of the Assumption in Fairport, NY.

Sean was a great friend and teammate of my son, Dan. The two of them sometimes got into trouble, but it was always mischievous or funny, not destructive. Our hearts are broken at the news of his illness and death. May his memory be a blessing.

I miss him dearly, and having these pictures helps me cope. Thank you to whoever created this. He definitely loved animals, and he was always a jokester. However he was a Giants fan, not a Jets fan, but that’s not what’s important. What’s important to me is the memories he left my family and the laughter he’s given all of us

My deepest condolences to the Smith Family. Sean was a great friend to me for decades.
