Charles Hugh Speirs, Chuck, was born in Glascow, Scotland on December 28,1932 to Jane Dunsmuir Speirs and Charles Wilson Speirs. Chuck grew up in Schenectady, NY with his sister Sadie. He graduated from Union College in 1954 and joined the Navy where he was a journalist for Commander Fleet Air in Japan for two years. After leaving the Navy, Chuck attended Western Reserve University and received his master’s degree in library science. Chuck worked in London for several years before returning to work at the Rochester Public Library for six years. Chuck continued his career as a librarian at Monroe Community College for another 32 years. After retiring, Chuck audited classes at Monroe Community College and was a conversation coach for individual MCC students. Chuck was an avid traveler his whole adult life and traveled around the world in 1973. He was a great supporter of the arts, both theatre and visual arts. Chuck is survived by his nieces, Paula Weiman and Gail Young and his nephew, David Rickard as well as great and grand nieces and nephews.
