Sally Anne Warner Stanek
March 25, 1942 – May 27, 2026
Sally Anne Stanek, devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 27, 2026.
She is survived by her three children, Mark Stanek (Marc Zukowski), Jeffrey Stanek (Jennifer), and Lisa Nethery (Todd); her five cherished grandchildren (James, William, Hannah, Ben and Sam); and her two sisters, Joan Elizabeth Plato of Maryland and Martha Warner Ross of Massachusetts.
Born on March 25, 1942, in Oswego, New York, Sally graduated from high school before attending college and beginning her lifelong passion for education. She became an elementary school teacher and was known for creating classrooms filled with warmth, encouragement, and kindness. Over the years, Sally worked in retail, financial planning, and several other fields, yet she always found her way back to what she loved most — working with children. Most recently, she volunteered twice a week with the Listening Post program in the Fairport Public Schools, where her compassion and caring nature touched many young lives.
Sally embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy. Alongside her dear friend, Dianne Collier, she spent countless weekends traveling to art festivals, museums, and favorite restaurants. Her happiest places were Cape Cod and Maine, where she loved strolling along the beach, shopping, and meeting new friends.
Above all, Sally was devoted to her family. She especially treasured the holidays and delighted in hosting Christmas gatherings that brought loved ones together and created lasting memories. Her family and friends will forever remember her warmth, optimism, generosity, and unmistakable joie de vivre.
One of sixteen grandchildren of the late Geneva and Charles Dain, of Oswego, Sally is survived by cousins, Gigi, Constance, Thomas, Mimi, Patricia, Karen, Christopher, David and Geneva. She leaves behind her dearest friend of sixty-five years, Suzanne Stacey, Massachusetts.

I’m so very sorry for your loss, Mark and family. Bob and I loved seeing Sally when she came to Massachusetts to visit you and to see your life at Shady Hill. We send our love and condolences to all who loved Sally.
Sally was one of the warmest and most joyful people I have ever known. I always looked forward to spending time with her and Dianne whenever she visited Massachusetts. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen and valued, and I will always cherish our conversations, laughter, and brunches together.
I feel truly grateful to have known her and to have experienced her kindness and enthusiasm for life. She will be deeply missed.

So sorry for your loss. Sally was a wonderful soul. I enjoyed our conversations when she came into the Perinton Assessment Office.
I was so sad to hear of the passing of your dear mom, Sally. I met Sally last year through the Listening Post. Her table was always filled with students excited to chat with her while doing a craft. She connected with everyone! We shared a love of teaching, the color red, and hearts. I will miss her as I know all who loved her will. May her memory be a blessing.
I met Sally through the Listening Post. I was continually impressed with the rapport she had with the kids and how much they enjoyed visiting with her. Always cheerful, always upbeat. I will miss her.
