Storonsky, M.D., Michael Christopher

Michael C. Storonsky, M.D., Fairport, NY

Dr. Storonsky was a well-respected Board-Certified Dermatologist, Attending Physician, and Assistant Professor. Michael was a devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. Michael unexpectedly passed away on July 19, 2025, at age 37.

Predeceased by his Grandparents, Michael W. and Pauline F. Storonsky, Robert F. and Gloria Cichon, and Uncle David Cichon. Survived by his Parents Michael P. and Linda Cichon Storonsky, Sister Natasha C. Becker and Husband Stephen M. Becker, Nephew Stephen M. Becker, Jr., Niece Natalie C. Becker, Aunt Mary (Storonsky) English, Uncle Richard English, Cousin Megan (English) Reeves, Husband Jeremy Reves, PhD, and Children Parker and Haley Reeves, Cousin Chad English, Wife Rosie Pluretti-English, PhD, Aunt Christine (Storonsky) Rush, Uncle Richard Rush, Cousin Katie Rush, Partner Russ Zahralban, Cousin Nick Rush, Aunt Paula (Storonsky) Melidones, Uncle Stephen Melidones, Uncle Douglas Cichon, Aunt Paula Cichon, Cousin Taylor Cichon, Uncle Russell Cichon, and Cousin Jessie Parent.

Michael was both brilliant (grammar school IQ 154), and a kind soul who tried to help everyone he could. He was both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. He played Fairport Baseball, which his father managed, and where he was on a championship team at age 12. Michael was captain of his Fairport High School chess and math teams, which both won Monroe County Championships. He was also on the high school Latin Club. He was an avid Bills fan and a Yankees fan.

Michael attended the University of Rochester for his undergraduate studies where he completed dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and economics. During that time, he was offered the opportunity for a summer internship with a Wall Street firm but turned it down so he could do an anesthesiology internship at Strong Hospital pursuing his desire to help people. Michael was awarded a Take 5 Scholarship to attend a fifth-year tuition free and obtained enough credits for a third degree in Psychology. During his take 5 program, his professors asked him to pursue a PhD in psychology, but he also turned that down so he could pursue medicine.

Michael attended SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse where he obtained his Medical Degree. Dr. Storonsky completed his internship year at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Highlighting his dedication, during a blizzard he needed to walk more than a mile from his apartment to St. Joseph’s and back to complete his rotation seeing patients, as no vehicles were allowed on the road.

Michael was the best man and groomsman in several weddings, including his sister’s, during which he memorized and gave lengthy toasts which were unmatched and worthy of standing ovations. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his sister, Natasha, and playing with his 3-year-old nephew, Stevie, who called him Dr. Uncle Mikey, and his 18-month-old niece, Natalie.

He went to the University of Connecticut where he completed a fellowship and his residency in Dermatology. During his final semester of residency, when many people, including some fellow doctors and staff, were sequestered at home during the Covid pandemic, Michael was asked to assist an attending physician with life threatening scalp, face, and neck skin cancer surgeries. During that time, he was exposed to patients with Covid and as a result Michael was subsequently diagnosed with propriospinal myoclonus, a neurological disorder which periodically affected his ability to sleep and caused concurrent seizures. Dr. Storonsky stayed at UConn for the next five years, health permitting, as an attending physician and assistant professor where he saw more than 10,000 patients and trained residents and medical students. Michael also was responsible for counseling medical students seeking to be accepted in dermatology residency programs.

Dr. Storonsky had an excellent bedside manner which resulted in countless patients telling him they would follow him to his next position, and expressing their appreciation for his kindness, and the time he spent diagnosing and explaining their conditions and treatment options. Many of his patients wrote letters of appreciation to the University, including a recent patient who said Dr. Storonsky diagnosed and developed a successful treatment regimen for a disease that other dermatologists had been unable to solve for over 20 years.

Michael recently completed his contract at UConn and was enjoying the company of his family. Michael was looking forward to his next phase of life, spending more time with family and friends and continuing to help patients with their dermatological conditions.

Michael passed away in his sleep and the cause of death is presently unknown. Michael’s family and friends will miss him very, very much. Michael may God bless you.

Michael was a strong proponent of all vaccinations, especially Covid vaccinations, encouraging all his patients to get vaccinated. If you wish to honor Michael’s memory, please stay up to date on all your vaccinations, especially Covid. Donations in Michael’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.

  24. When Tomorrow Starts Without Me – by David M. Romano
    When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
Are filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
    The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
    We didn’t get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
And each time you think of me
I know you’ll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me
    Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
    In Heaven far above
And that I’d have to leave behind
    All those I dearly love
But when I walked through Heaven’s gate
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
    From His great golden throne
He said this is eternity And all I promised you
Today your life on earth is past
    But here it starts anew
    I promise no tomorrow
    For today will always last
And since each day’s the same way
There’s no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
    Don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me
I’m right here in your heart

My most sincere condolences to Dr. Storonsky’s immediate family, friends, colleagues, patients and anyone he touched…his warmth, kindness and compassion will always be remembered….

  25. I am heartbroken to learn of Mike’s passing, and my deepest condolences go out to Mike’s family. Mike and I went to high school together at FHS, and we spent countless hours studying for exams, battling each other in poker games with our friends, and dreaming about life after high school. While we didn’t see each other often after graduation, whenever our paths crossed, most recently at a wedding in 2019, it was just like it was 2006 again. Mike was a truly extraordinary person, and he possessed a rare combination of both academic and emotional intelligence that helped him to achieve great heights not only in his professional career, but in the relationships that he formed with others. While Mike left this earth far too soon, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of the countless family members, friends, and patients that he positively impacted. Rest in peace, Mike. You will always be missed, and never forgotten.

  36. I still remember listening to Sunscreen with Mikie in a together one time as a kid. Inspiring to understand more of his story, and my condolences to our family. Love always, and will be thinking of Dr Mikie as I do things in the world ahead.

  37. My first memory of Mike is from a poker game at the University of Rochester during our freshman year, which he, of course, won. Little did we know then that four of the players at that table would quickly bond over mutual interests in academics, humor, video games, and thoughtful conversations, among other things. Over the months that followed, we formed what turned out to be an inseparable group, dubbed “the Rhombus” by another friend on our hall. We lived and studied together for the next five years. With varying but complementary strengths and weaknesses, we somehow all achieved the marks necessary to be accepted into medical school while keeping ourselves sane with various antics and late nights out. Bonded for life, we continued to reunite periodically over the years—sharing war stories from our days in training, visiting one another’s medical schools and residencies, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and marking life’s milestones, including two of our wedding days, where Mike was a groomsman.

As a friend, Mike was the kind of person where you could always pick up where you left off. He had a razor-sharp wit and was able to engage in the headiest of intellectual conversations one minute and the silliest banter the next. He gave you his undivided attention when you approached him with personal concerns and found ways to understand you, offering insights few others could—often dispensing great advice. Because of this, many felt comfortable opening up to him in heart-to-heart conversations, and he developed many close friendships. The PhD he was encouraged to pursue at the end of college was in relationship psychology, and if you knew him, it’s not difficult to understand why.

Mike will forever be missed as a doctor, but also as a best friend to many, and to me, like a brother I never had.

    RIP, roomie

  38. Dear Mike, My sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved son. I remember the stories you told me of him and how proud you were of his accomplishments. God’s loving peace to you and your family.

  39. My sincerest condolences. I only knew Michael as a patient of his at UCONN – and he was truly one of the best doctors I’ve ever had. His expertise, kindness and humanity were on full display during every single visit. I rarely follow a doctor when they switch practices, but had made it a point to do so with Michael, and that’s how I came across this tragic news.
Hard to lose one of the great ones – and I mean humans.

  40. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dr Storonsky. As one of his patients, he made me feel like family. I am deeply saddened by his passing but will hold on to the beautiful memories of him. May his soul rest peace🙏.

  41. My heart is broken for his Family. I was a patient of his at Uconn, he knew I was devastated about him leaving. He smiled and said the internet is a great resource. I came on tonight to find his new Dermatology home, and I stumbled across his obituary. I’m deeply saddened and grateful for the years I had with this impeccable kind man.

  42. I was shocked to hear of Dr Stronskys passing. I was trying to find out where his new assignment was after he left UCONN. At my last visit I asked him where he was going and he said UConn would not allow him to say, but to look him up and I should be able to find him.
I was his patient for 3 years and he was able to diagnose what I had which 4 doctors could not. I was so greatful as once he put me on a medicine all of the itchy ness and blisters were gone.
    May he RIP.

  43. I remember in my sophomore year of highschool Mike and I were in the same class. It was child development class and I remember how outgoing and caring he was. He is greatly missed, my thoughts love and prayers to his family.

  44. I did not know Mike personally, but as a colleague in the dermatology community I want you to know how much he was appreciated and loved. He is so missed. May God always watch over him and his loved ones.

  45. I just learned about Michael’s passing in the Rochester alumni newsletter. I was his advisor and research supervisor during his Take 5 year in Psychology. He was a real gem — smart, eager, caring, and utterly genial in everything he did. I still remember our meetings — he filled me with pride about what our students can accomplish with a little bit of opportunity and encouragement.
