Patrick D. Sullivan, 61, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, after bravely facing a three-year journey with cancer.
Born in Elmira, NY on October 29th, 1963, Patrick was the son of the (late) Helen Sullivan and James Sullivan.
In his free time, Patrick, often referred to as “Sully” loved nothing more than spending time with his three kids, Sean, Laney, and Jillian and his first granddaughter, Rylan. A cherished father, grandfather (Pop-Pop), coach, and more, “Sully” was loved and adored by all.
He had a deep love for sports and cherished the time they gave him with his three kids. Some of their best memories were made in the driveway playing one-on-one, out on the field passing the lacrosse ball, or walking together on the golf course-occasionally with a thrown golf club or two. He used those moments to teach more than just technique; he taught resilience, humility, patience, and the value of hard work. In victory, he taught them grace; in defeat, character. He believed sports were a reflection of life, unpredictable, challenging, and beautiful—and he showed his kids how to meet it all with heart. Through every game and every conversation after, he shaped them not just into better players, but into the kind, strong, and grounded people he was so proud of.
Patrick’s passing leaves a profound and lasting void in the hearts of his family and friends. He now joins his beloved mother, Helen, and will be deeply missed by the mother of his three children—Amy, his children—Sean, Laney, and Jillian; his granddaughter, Rylan; his father, James; his siblings—Debbie, Michael, Danny, Mary, Colleen, and Bridget; along with his extended family and a wide circle of friends whose lives he touched in countless ways. His memory will live on as a shining reminder of the joy, laughter, and vibrant spirit he brought to every life he encountered.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 7th at 11AM at St. Catherine of Siena in Mendon, NY. Following Mass, a celebration of life will be held at 20 Deep Winery in Mendon, NY at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Patrick Sullivan, father, family man and friend. A fierce competitor, as teammate or opponent, you battled to the end. But when it was over you were there for the fun and laughter that followed. When you reach that big, beautiful Sports Bar in the Sky, have one (or two) and play some Quick Draw for us. Redskins forever! Gone way too soon at sixty-one. As in sports, you battled to the end. From the gregarious smile and warm welcoming waives which flowed so naturally as we would pass by to the spiffy epithets carved into the lawn expressing his frustration with untidiness of the golf club, we will miss your wonderful Patrick. The world goes on minus a great man…. I cherish the memories of coaching against Sully and the competitive youth (then JV and Varsity) basketball games our daughters played against each other throughout the years. He was always kind and generous, and always a friend. His love for his children was always evident. My deepest condolences to his family.
Your North star was always your children and you are loved a thousand times more for it.
