Cory Dean Andrew Surline, 59, of Rochester, N.Y., passed peacefully into rest on Friday, March 13, 2026 in Geneva, N.Y. He was predeceased by his adored parents William and Helen (Williams) Surline of Pittsford. Cory is survived by his beautiful daughter, Kelsey (Sheperd) Jones, beloved siblings, Kathryn Michelle (Robert Kliment) Surline, Steven (Kathleen) Surline, William Reger, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Cory was a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland high school, and, like his father before him, last worked as a highwayman for the Town of Pittsford, N.Y. He loved growing up in Pittsford; he was a talented hockey player in his youth and enjoyed riding his bike everywhere. Cory and his family loved camping at Oak Orchard and fishing along the Clyde River, around Fairhaven and on Mendon Ponds, making lifelong friends along the way.
While there were no advance arrangements in place for his untimely passing, Cory’s siblings believe he wouldn’t wish to be center of attention at a funeral, likely preferring cremation, then “kicking back” with family and friends, out fishing somewhere he loved, and then of course, having a great cookout, heavy on the burgers. With that in mind, a fitting remembrance and celebration of Cory’s life will be planned to take place during the warmth of summer.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the many critical care nurses and staff at University of Rochester Medical Center Strong Memorial/Geneva General Hospital ICU and UR Hospice Care for their unwavering dedication, kindness, and compassion to Cory and his loved ones over these last weeks.
The Surlines also sincerely thank their respective employers for extending unconditional support and enabling them to remain with Cory throughout his final days. It meant the world to have that time.
In lieu of flowers, the Surline family would appreciate any consideration of donation in Cory’s memory to either UR Hospice Care or the Mental Health Association of Rochester via the following links:

Cory had an extra dose of laughter in him, and ‘friendly pestering’ that came naturally. If you knew Cory, you know exactly what I’m saying. A jokester at heart. But not to hurt another. A kind soul. I never saw Cory scheming against another human being like so many people seem inclined to do these days. He was not that way. He was easy to like. Easy to love. This world gets the best of us all eventually, but I am sad to think that Cory died this young. My age. We never know, do we? Not really. So long old friend of mine. See you on the other side of this greedy old world. You were not greedy. You enjoyed whatever life gave to you. You enjoyed it well.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Corey was like a brother to me because I practically lived at your house. Corey could brighten anyone’s day with that infectious smile. May he rest in peace.
