








William Carroll Tongue passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2025. He was 89. Bill was born on March 10, 1935, in Saugerties, New York to William F. and Beatrice (Miller) Tongue. Bill graduated from Saugerties High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University in 1957. At Syracuse, he completed ROTC and received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army as a Field Artillery Officer. While serving on active duty, he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Riley, Kansas, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina until his honorable discharge in 1960. He achieved the rank of Captain.
Bill spent his professional career working for Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance until he retired in 1993. Bill met the love of his life, Nancy Newton, on a blind date in the fall of 1962. The couple wed on June 29, 1963. They adopted two children, Teri and Todd. Their family became complete with the birth of their youngest son, Edward (Ned), in 1974.
Bill was a loving husband, a supportive and nurturing father, a loyal friend, and an all-around good man. He had a very special love for his immediate and extended family, as well as his friends. Bill had a firm side but was a teddy bear at heart.
He loved golf, bowling, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. Bill had a smile that could light up the room and will always be remembered for his kindness and commitment to those he held dear. Heaven gained an angel the day Bill passed away but fond memories of him will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Bill is pre-deceased by his brother, James, son, Ned and son-in-law, Randy Morris. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Teri Morris, son Todd (Stephanie) and sister-in-law, Barbara. He is also survived by grandchildren Brandon, Jordan and Austin Morris, Megan (Brian) Lomb, and Matthew Tongue and two great grandchildren, Cecelia and Sophia Lomb.
Calling Hours are Monday, March 3 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at Keenan’s Funeral Home in Egypt. The Memorial Service will be held at Creations Chapel, White Haven Cemetery on Tuesday, March 4 at 11:00AM with interment immediately following.
