Gary VanDeVoorde, 83, of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He lived most of his life in Fairport, where he built a home, career, and lasting memories with family and friends.

Born with a strong work ethic and a kind heart, Gary spent much of his career at Gleason Works, where he was known for his dedication and reliability. Outside of work, he cherished the simple pleasures in life—whether it was watching a good baseball, football, or golf game, or spending hours mowing and tending to his yard, which brought him great pride and joy.

On August 8, 1964, Gary married the love of his life, Jean, and together they shared more than six decades of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He was a proud and loving father to his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Julie, and a deeply devoted grandfather to Natalie, Nathan, and Jake. He is also survived by several beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Nothing brought Gary greater happiness than time spent with his family.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, warm smile, and the way he made every moment with loved ones meaningful. His legacy of love and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, October 7, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY 14450. A service will follow on Wednesday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. at White Haven Memorial Park All Seasons Chapel 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Gary’s memory.

  1. I feel sad, so far away in distance with the family. I keep precious memories to Gary, the Jeans and Joyce in my mind. So much love and kindness… Every day i think to Gary, watching the antique plate he gave me when we were visiting last time, it has a special place in our living room. Thank you Gary for everything. Rest in peace. My message to the family: he was a beautiful character with a lot of love, keep this memories, they are the most important legacy for you.

    • Thank you Myriam. I’m so glad we all got to spend time together when you were here a couple years ago. Family was very important to UG and he was so happy to host that picnic in his yard. I’m also glad that you were able to see him and say some words to him this week. I’m sure he heard you. ❤️

  2. To Pam and family, my deepest sympathy. Death takes the body; God takes the soul; our mind holds the memories; our heart keeps the love; our faith let’s us know we will meet again.

  3. Gary and Jean were so special in mine and Gladys’s life. Now both of them and Gladys can be looking down with the special love they gave to us. My deepest sympathy to your family.

  4. So sorry to hear of Garys passing. My condolences to his family. Gary was not only my boss at Gleasons but my friend and mentor. He was also a great softball player and bowler. Just a fun person to be around. I will always have fond memories of Gary. RIP Gary.

  5. Gary was a beautiful soul, kind, caring, and genuine. I grew up across the street from him, and my parents still saw him often. As an adult, I got to know him better while helping out around his yard. He was always so appreciative, which made me want to do even more. He’ll be deeply missed by all the Parnells. Say hi to Jean for us. God’s peace, my friend.

  6. David and family – So very sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Like Jeff Parnell, I grew up across the street and remember the old block parties always being so fun. Interestingly enough, my Dad (Gary Foster who passed in 2016), Joe Sereno, and your Dad worked together at Gleaon Works in the 1960’s. Such a small world.

  7. Our love always ran deep for your mom and dad and we are saddened by his passing. We have such fond memories of our many times spent together sharing in many family activities. He will be remembered and missed.

  8. I am sorry about Gary’s passing but glad he is in a better place. He was one of my mom’s (Judy Dalle-Emma) favorite cousins. He was a gentleman always. Hugs to all of you.
