Donald C. Vermeulen
1/25/1937-11/18/2024
Don is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Josephine, brother Ronnie, sister Norma Jane, wife Ann Vermeulen and survived by his companion Sue Wagner, brother Robert, children Scott (Roseanne), Joann Kenyon, grandson Brandon (Amanda), great granddaughter Scarlett Ann and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Don graduated from Fairport High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Hawaii. He married Ann Rowley on October 17, 1959. He was Scout Master for the City of Rochester Troop 16 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business from RIT. In 1975, he acquired Meyers Company in Fairport. Through years of experience, he became a highly respected authority pertaining to onsite wastewater treatment practices. This led to him assisting New York State Watershed Authority with code development, which then led him to become an instructor at the N.Y. Onsite Wastewater Treatment Training Program.
Prior to retirement in 2010, he built his dream home. He spent many hours on his “beloved” Kubota tractor beautifying his property. He thrived on spending hours and even days building bridges and planting and trimming trees. He led a full and active life. Six weeks prior to his death, he was on his backhoe continuing to improve his property.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday November 22nd from 4-7pm at Keenan’s Funeral Home (7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd, Fairport NY) and services will follow on Saturday November 23rd at 10am at Penfield United Methodist Church (1795 Baird Rd, Penfield NY).
In lieu of flowers, please share your memories of Don as we continue to remember a great man.

Thank you for the prayers.
My dad, Curtis Heft was stationed with Don in the service. Even with the distance between our families they stayed close. Growing up we enjoyed many summer vacations visiting each other. Definitely more fun than visiting theme parks! My condolences to Scott and Joann and the rest of their family.
Thank you
So many memories of our times together!! Thank you Sue

Never knew your dad, but he left behind a great son and daughter-in-law. As in each day of our walk with our Lord, continue in strength and enjoy the countless gifts He gave you through your folks.
Thanks Carm

Joann and Scott, Jeff and I remember many wonderful years of friendship and sharing worship, meals and laughter together at Penfield UMC. Will certainly miss Don’s smiling face at Penfield Keenagers lunches and worship!
Thank you.
We enjoyed occasional chats with Don when he visited Osceola, NY. He always had a smile and an interesting story to share. It was fun to see the enjoyment he took in getting to know the neighbors and locals in this little town. Don seemed to enjoy nothing more than a good conversation! We will miss him as will others here who knew him. Our sympathies to Jo and Scott and the entire family.
Thank you guys.
I purchased Meyers Co. from Don in April of 2010. He had built an outstanding business. I was fortunate to have Don’s guidance and mentorship through our first few years. Always a gentleman. Always available to me. Always kind and decent. I am better for having known him. May his life and memory be a light to us all.
Thank you Dan
