Walsh III, George F.

10/12/1964-10/24/2022

George F. Walsh III of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2022 at the young age of 58.

George was the heartbeat of his family. He was a fiercely devoted and loving husband, extremely proud father, and compassionate and funny son, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend.

Everyone who met George (aka: “G”, “Jorge”, “Georgie”) loved him and even that is an understatement. Whether he knew you for an hour or a lifetime his gift for telling great stories, sharing a witty joke or offering an unapologetic opinion was sure to make you smile, think or laugh. Most of all, George enjoyed supporting his children whether it was at their games, award ceremonies, concerts, or cheerleading competitions.

He was the grill master of the family known for his honey mustard chicken, burgers and ribs cooked to perfection every time whether at home, at a Buffalo Bills tailgate or visiting his family. George’s ideal way of spending weekend evenings, especially after working all day in his yard and gardens, was sitting on his patio with the fire pit blazing surrounded by his family, beloved neighbors or friends having good conversation, a good meal and plenty of laughs. Please consider gathering with family or friends and cheer for the Buffalo Bills while enjoying a great meal with your favorite beer and a lot of laughter in his honor. George was one of a kind and the world will never be the same without him. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

George grew up in Fairport and graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School (’82) and Denison University (’86). Throughout his telecommunications career, most recently with AT&T and Paychex, clients considered him a friend, consistently valued his genuine commitment to exceeding their expectations along with a personalized touch.

Predeceased by his father, George F. Walsh, Jr, MD (May 2022); survived by the love of his life, wife Lori and children, Matthew and Molly; mother Josephine (Peppy) Walsh; sisters Kathleen Pringle (Larry Pitts) and Stephanie Prato (Tom); in-laws Tom and Carol Penders; brother-in-law Steve Penders (Judy); nieces and nephews Mark and Michael Pringle, Victoria and Alex Prato, and Kyle and Bridget Penders; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate George’s life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 10AM at Church of the Assumption, Fairport. It may also be livestreamed at https://cota.church/livestream . A private internment will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in George’s name to McQuaid Jesuit High School, 1800 S. Clinton Ave. Rochester, NY 14618, or to the American Diabetes Association by visiting their website: www.diabetes.org

The family extends special thanks to his treatment team at Highland Hospital for their heartfelt commitment to his compassionate care.

I remember like it was yesterday, riding over to Stephanie’s house in junior high and highschool and seeing George who always had a “smart alec” comment ready for me! He was a pistol. I also remember, several years later, Dr. Walsh saying how he couldn’t wait for George to move back to Rochester from Boston. God bless George Walsh III and Dr. George Walsh Jr now united in the everlasting bond of life.

I am so heartbroken for Lori, Matthew, and Molly, and for Aunt Peppy, Kathleen, Stephanie and their families. I agree with Ellen Philips about Georgie’s mischievous and infectious spirit. It was one of his defining and endearing qualities. Fare thee well Georgie!

I was one of George’s co-workers and we had become good friends quickly after starting at the same time. He always had time for a laugh. If there’s one thing I know about George it’s that he loved his family more than anything. My condolences to you all.

I know George meant the world to Steve. He considered him one of his closest , dearest friends. I’ll miss him being here early with the Camry for brake jobs and various repairs. I’ll miss him just stopping by and always telling endless stories a bout Matt and Molly. I’ll miss our nights around the fire drinking too much wine. Not to mention those Super Bowl parties. I’ll never forget the night George was talking about Lori and he said “I just love that woman so much”. Truly an inspiration for us. You were a wonderful couple and you raised an amazing family. George will be dearly missed. What a heart he had. One of a kind.
