Fairport, NY: Peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, Chick passed at the age of 88. Preceded in death by Merio, the love of his life and wife of 64 years, on August 27, 2016, and sister Jean Enos in 2015, Chick is survived by children Clark (Gina Rivaldo) Wentworth, Nancy (Dan) Loughran, John “Spider” Wentworth, Andrew (Sue Ann) Wentworth and Noel Wentworth; grandchildren Danielle and Dylan Wentworth, Anna and Siobhan Loughran, Michael Wentworth and Jacob Shelton, Sean (Marissa Longo) and Nicole Brooks; great-granddaughter- to- be, Ella Marie, and cousins, nieces and nephew.
Born in Rome, NY, to Byron and Nora Fitzgerald Wentworth, Chick graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1945 and served in the US Navy in 1946-47. Residing in Rochester for over 40 years, Chick worked in the insurance profession, most recently at the Don Allen Agency. He served for decades as an usher at Holy Cross Church, was an avid bowler, and spent countless hours involved in baseball and softball as a coach for the Charlotte Youth Athletic Association and an umpire with the Rochester District Umpires Association. Finally retiring to Florida in 2004, Chick continued umpiring and enjoyed playing cards and pool with neighbors in the retirement community of Tower Lakes in Lake Wales, FL. Chick and Merio returned to Rochester in 2012, spending time at both the Legacy in Victor and The Villages at Unity senior communities. Though ill in his late life, Chick never lost his wry wit nor concern for others.
A joint celebration of Chick and Merio’s lives will be held on Tuesday, Nov 8th, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY followed by a Funeral Mass Nov 9th at 11 am at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Ave., Rochester, NY with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The family wishes to express tremendous gratitude for the compassion shown both Chick and Merio and their family by Lifetime Care, especially to Gail Brodner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lifetime Care
