Fairport: January 2, 1947 – May 22, 2020
After a brief battle with cancer, she passed away with her husband by her side on May 22, 2020. Her beautiful smile will remain in our hearts forever.
She is survived by loving husband, Robert L. Wharmby; daughter Tamara (John) K. VanTassel, stepson James (Yvonne) R. Wharmby, grandchildren, Samantha Vermeulen, Garrett Vermeulen, Amanda (Richard) VanTassel-Reed, Andrea VanTassel, Kevin (Amber) Smith, Chelsea (Brian) Gazzetta, Dylan Wharmby, sister Deborah (Richard) Wise, and many loved great grandchildren.
Kay was pre-deceased by her father, Charles P. Kyle II, mother and stepfather Gertrude (Wilt) & George Fyfe, and brother Charles P. Kyle III.
Kay was an avid golfer, wonderful community member, amazing gardener, and a New York Yankees lover. Kay’s greatest joys were her family and friends.
She was currently serving her Grand Matron of the Eastern Star State of New York term. Kay has held the following prestigious titles in her successful career; past president of the Executive Women’s Golf Association, past president of New York State Governors Finance Office Association, past treasurer of Monroe County Mayors Association, past president of Palmyra Garden Club, past president of New York Municipal Finance Officers, she was a member of New York State Conference of Mayors, she held the Western Region Conference Chair of Governors Financial Officers Association.
Kay’s most noteworthy career accomplishments are that she was a retiree from Kodak after 32 years, she also served as the clerk treasurer for the city of Canandaigua for numerous years, and she just recently retired from her position as the clerk treasurer of the village of Fairport in 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the Grand Chapter order of the Eastern Star State of New York. Please send donations to: Grand Chapter, Townder Hall 106, 1400 Utica Street, Oriskany NY 13424.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family due to COVID-19. More details are to follow on a public gathering at a later date.

So sorry to hear of Kay’s passing….I treasure all the time we spent with her at N-SSA events. My prayers go out to Bob and her family.
I was extremely saddened to hear about Kay’s passing. I worked with her through the Monroe County Clerk’s Association and Self-Insured Worker’s Comp Group. She was a wonderful mentor and friend. She will be missed greatly.
Was very saddened to hear of Kay’s passing.
Since I had known her when I became Mayor in Spencerport she was always there to help whenever I needed it!
Because of her help Spencerport is part of the insurance group with other municipalities.
A real loss to all our Village’s of Monroe family.

Kay was a wonderful person. She cared deeply about people and was dedicated to helping the residents of the Village of Fairport. She will be missed.

Dear Bob just heard of Kay’s passing . So sad to hear loosing a loved one is never easy . I don’t know if you heard of Charles Harris’s passing on Thanks Giving Day 2019 due to cancer . I’m still mourning his loss , so I can fell your pain . Kay was such a wonderful & caring person . I’m so greatful to have such good memories & I keep them close to my heart everyday . Take care of yourself & try to be strong I know it’s not easy !!!
