June (Alice Denney) Strait Wilson passed away peacefully at her home on July 8, 2026 at the age of 97, following a brief illness.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Governor William D. Denney and Alice Denney; her first husband, Stephen N. Strait, who died in 1964; and her second husband, Robert E Wilson, who died in 2013.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Cynthia (Stephen) Smith, Anne (Rob) Wilson, Stephen (Deborah) Strait, Daniel (Susan) Strait; her two stepsons Robert (Anne) Wilson and Steven Wilson; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two more great-grandchildren expected soon.
June grew up in Dover, Delaware, where her father served as governor. She attended Sunny Hills School, Dwight School, and Bradford Junior College before earning a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University, and a master’s degree from the University of Rochester.
After the death of her first husband in Canandaigua, June courageously raised her four young children while beginning her career as a substitute teacher. She later moved to Pittsford, where she taught French in the Brighton School District until her retirement.
In the early 1970s, she met Robert “Bob” Wilson, whom she married in 1973. Together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage until Bob’s passing in 2013.
Retirement opened new opportunities for June to pursue both service and adventure. In addition to traveling extensively with Bob, she became a volunteer braille transcriber, typing numerous books for the Library of Congress to make literature more accessible to readers who are blind or visually impaired.
Family was at the center of June’s life. She and Bob treasured time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they remained active members of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford throughout their lives.
A memorial service celebrating June’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church Street, Pittsford, NY 14534, on Saturday August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.

Steve and I had the privilege of meeting June at her home just after Christmas last year. She welcomed us with an open heart, and her warmth and kindness made a lasting impression during the few days we spent in Rochester. From then on, every time I spoke with Steve on the phone, June would always make a point of saying hello. That simple gesture spoke volumes about the kind of person she was.
It is easy to understand how deeply she will be missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched. We will miss her as well.
