Fairport: Donna passed peacefully on January 20, 2020 surrounded by her family, at the age of 72.

Donna is survived by her children: Steve (Kristin), Debbie (Brandon) Ramsey and Kristen (Tim) Berns; grandchildren, Matthew, Sierra, Maia and Ava Ramsey, Connor and Morgan Wrobbel, and Sophie, Jack and Sammy Berns, her siblings: Dan Brown, Chris (Bob) Howell, Carolyn (Bill) DeCoursey, Patrick (Robin) Brown, Kim (Rudy) Schrader and several cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by parents Don and Jackie Brown, brother Mick Brown and nephew Michael Howell.

Donna was born April 25th, 1947 in Utica, NY.  She spent her childhood in Herkimer as the oldest of seven children of Don and Jackie Brown.   She attended nursing school at Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse and graduated in 1968.  She was a lifelong caregiver as a nurse and nanny.  While very proud of her career, she was proudest of being a mom to her three beautiful children.

Donna enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family.  She loved traveling to the Adirondacks and paddling on the quiet waters in her kayak.  Family camping trips and campfires were always a favorite of Donna’s.  She was often seen taking long, daily walks with her dog, Lola.  Whether she was playing Scrabble, making Christmas cookies with her grandkids, or just sharing a meal and a good laugh, Donna was beloved by all of whom she was surrounded by.

Donna fought a very courageous fight against Alzheimer’s for 8 years.  She became a strong advocate for awareness by attending walks, volunteering for Alzheimer’s Association and by wearing her favorite color, purple.  She spent her final years being lovingly cared for by the incredible staff of Creekstone Memory Care.  Her family is eternally grateful for the staff’s compassionate care of their mom.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna’s memory may be made to Creekstone, part of Rochester Presbyterian Home.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of your mother. She was such a sweet lady. Especially when I would see her with her little doggie. She lived in the same two houses at Creekstone with my mother Ellie Gardephe. Ellie passed away in August. Peace be with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know Donna endured very difficult times in her latter years. I’m confident that she is resting in the arms of our savior. As her cousin I remember all the good time we had in our younger years. She was such a sweetheart. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was so shocked to hear of Donna’s passing…another neighbor/friend and I had planned to visit her at Creekstone this week. She was a dear friend, neighbor and intuitive lady. I am sure she will be missed by all who knew her.
“Death leaves a sting, nothing can heal, Love leaves a memory, no one can steal.” May loving memories of Donna help all who mourn her loss at this time. I will never forget her “Life is Good” smile….never did I see her without that smile!

I’m so sorry for the loss – Donna and her pup were such a bright spot for us at Creekstone while my Mom lived there.
