Mary Antoinette (DiMambro) Chiz passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 4, 2022. She celebrated her 100th birthday this past December.

She was predeceased by her husband Alex Chiz, with whom she celebrated 47 years of marriage, her sister Anne “Honey” Davis, and brothers-in-law Otis Davis and Anthony DiTucci.  She is survived by her son Richard Chiz; her daughter Carole (Christopher) Barker; grandkids Taylor (Kellen) Barker-Beck, Zack, Christopher and Michael Barker; sister Nancy DiTucci; nephew Otis Davis; nieces Karen Bellini and Diane DiTucci.

Mary was born and raised in Rochester, NY and graduated from Madison High School in 1940 where she was a member of the badminton club, basketball club, ping pong club, volleyball club and girl’s athletic council. She went on to work at Graflex and Steffen’s Greenhouse before settling down and raising her family in Fairport, NY where she lived the rest of her life. Mary was the backbone of her family who many people relied on for assistance and guidance no matter what their struggles were. She was constantly caring for others and made sure everyone was taken care of first before herself.

She was an excellent cook known for her Italian red sauce and hosting family BBQs, and whenever she entertained or attended her grandkid’s sporting events, she made sure no one left hungry. When she wasn’t in the kitchen she was often found knitting or doing gardening. Mary loved spending time with her family, but especially her grandkids.

Her energy, spunk and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed by her entire family.

The family would like to thank the palliative staff at Rochester General Hospital for their compassion and care for Mary during her final days.  In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Calling Hours will be at White Haven Memorial Park, Creation Chapel, on May 14, 2022 from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service.

My Aunt Net was my Godmother and she took her job very seriously. She was a kind, intelligent, lovely woman who I will miss every day of my life but I know I’ll see her again

My childhood and the meaning of family was always special bc of my “Aunt Net.” On summer vacations to Sunset Lane, we’d stay up late, play Pokeno, listen to family stories as she put me to sleep. She was the best storyteller. I’d roller skate in the basement, dance for hours in the family room, and pull beans & basil from the garden with Uncle Alex. My deep love & condolences go out to my dear Aunt Nancy,, my cousins, father, and great nieces & nephews. I will always be grateful to be raised by “Aunt Net” and will miss her handwritten letters forever. All my love to our entire family. May “Net” Rest In Peace, and yet her legacy live on through us all.

My earliest memories of my Aunt Net go back 70 years. She would come home from the movies and tell me the whole story. Of course, every movie was about cowboys and Indians. My Aunt Net loved me, my daughters and everyone in her extended family. She will always be remembered for her warmth, energy and boundless love.
