Coon, Nora Jean
Nora Jean Coon, 82, of Fairport passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 9th, in the loving presence of both of her sons.
Nora spent many years serving the communities she lived in through her dedicated work at the Walworth Public Library and later, the Fairport Public Library. She immensely enjoyed playing her saxophone and baritone with the other members of the Green Band, part of The New Horizons Eastman Community Music School program. Her neighbors would comment that they enjoyed hearing her practice in her music room at her home. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting and was proud of her work with several very special rescue dogs throughout the years, who always found Nora as a loving caretaker and new “mom”.
Nora will be dearly missed and always remembered. As a 50 year survivor of Myasthenia Gravis, Nora was a testament to the saying; “There are no negatives in life, only challenges to overcome that will make you stronger.”
Nora was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John, her brother Noland Wemesfelder, her sister Judy Fisher and her parents, Roland and Zelma Wemesfelder.
She is survived by her sons Ronald (Toni) and Brad (Carol) , her sister June Chase, her brother Jerry Wemesfelder, her loving grandchildren Jennifer, Collin, Jeff, Taylor and Nicholas and 6 Great Grandchildren whom she adored.
At Nora’s request, instead of traditional services, the immediate family will hold a private gathering at a later date.

Jean was such a beautiful soul, we had many conversations about chronic illnesses and the medication to treat them.. I loved hearing her practice her music. She will be sorely missed by me and all her neighbors at valley creek..

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Norma for only a short time in the New Horizons Green Band, but it was special. Her enthusiasm, talent, and smiling face brought warmth to everyone. She was game to try anything – nothing stood in her way and she served as an example to all of us. I will always remember her with fondly.

Nora Jean was part of our knitting group. We did more talking than knitting. We also made sure we had good snacks to munch on. I will miss her stories and we also laughed a lot too. Rest in Peace Nora Jean.

I consider myself so fortunate to have had Nora come into my life! Nora had the ability to brighten everyone’s day with her boundless enthusiasm and sunny disposition. At first we sat next to each other in the saxophone section of the New Horizons Band.. Then Nora convinced me to learn to play the euphonium because she was having so much fun learning this new instrument. Our Sunday morning practice sessions were just pure fun! Nora was an inspiration and a total joy!
I didn’t know she had learned to play the sax and baritone. Way back when I knew her we played together in our high school band, she on the trombone. Later, having mastered that, she took up the piccolo!
