Lucy Ross Beckwith passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2022 at the age of 88.  She was born on December 12,1933 to Wiley Verne and Louise Lawton Ross in West Hartford CT.  Her childhood was spent playing, swimming and laughing with her brothers Herbert (Rossy), Robert (Bob) and cousin Herb Camp in West Hartford and Stony Creek, CT.

She attended Hall High School in West Hartford, Vermont Junior College and the University of Connecticut.  After school she began as one of the first female underwriters at The Phoenix Insurance Company.  It was at The Phoenix that she met her husband Mac James Beckwith and they were married on April 9, 1960.  They lived in Glens Falls, NY for several years before settling in Pittsford NY.

Lucy will be remembered for her positive upbeat attitude, her love for life and her infectious smile.  She was an avid golfer and could often be heard several holes away saying “that dog will hunt” after a great drive.  She was also a fun fierce bridge competitor and her lifelong passion began when she learned the game at age 7 from her mother.  She was an avid reader and was most happy if she could find a book that included history, suspense and a little bit of romance.  She loved the many years she spent in Abaco Bahamas with her husband, family and many dear friends.  She adored her time in Stony Creek CT with her large extended family.  Lucy was also a mentor and inspiration to many as an active member with the friends of Bill W.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents Wiley and Louise Ross, her brother Herbert and cousin Herbert Camp.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years Mac Beckwith, daughter Laura (Terry) Diehl, son Ross (Kathleen) Beckwith, grandchildren Matthew (Tara) Beckwith, Calvin (Ingrid) Beckwith, Quinn Beckwith and Alexandra Diehl.  She is also survived by her brother Robert Ross, her sister-in-law Patricia Ross and Alice Camp, many nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of dear friends.

All family and friends will be invited to a memorial service at a later date.  Many thanks go out to the St. John’s Memory Care Unit for providing excellent care over the last two years.

I will greatly miss my Aunt Lucy. She was a very happy, positive person. She was always cheerful and never had a complaint. She was very outgoing and enjoyed socializing. She loved her family and friends. I believe that Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. She always made a big holiday and enjoyed gathering with friends and family at her lovely home. She was a woman of great style. She always dressed well and looked great. It is her heart ❤️ I will miss more than anything. She was full of love and laughter and fun. She will be dearly missed.??

I never had the pleasure of meeting your mother, Laura, but after reading Allison’s tribute I felt a kinship as she sounds just like the fabulous force my own mother was. So loved and missed but the memories will live on and make it easier..?

Mac, we are terribly saddened by the loss of your lifelong partner, friend, and love. Lucy and Mac go together like the words of a song—and we rarely saw one without the other! Whether on the golf course or at a meeting, laughter and good cheer were your calling cards. With all the events of the last three years, we haven’t seen you but be assured you are in our hearts. God bless you and your family.
