Please accept our condolences for Jim’s death. I was priveleged to have known him.
Thank you for your kind words. Our Father was a great person and its heart warming to know others felt the same.
Seeing Jim in the halls at Gannett was always a treat. He had a rare ability to make everyone feel appreciated. In my early days on the news staff I couldn’t believe someone so important remembered my name. Sincere condolences to his loved ones.
Thank you. Dad had a special way about him especially in the halls of Gannett. He used to love to tour us kids around the building on visits and I cannot ever recall a time he didn’t know someone’s name and everyone knew him.
We are so sorry for your loss. I worked with Jim at Gannett. Couldn’t have been a nicer person. I’m sorry we lost touch over the past few years. He was a special individual. I will miss him.
Larry, Thank you. If memory serves me you were a fellow Comptroller, I’m sure you had a few laughs with our Dad. He always found a way to make the day better.
Please accept my deepest condolences on Jim’s passing. We were classmates at AQ and Fisher. We remained good friends all our lives. He and your mom were two of the most wonderful people.

Frank, So good to read your kind words. I know you and Dad were very close. I was pretty young at the time but I have fond memories of our families visiting. Thank You!
I worked with Jim at the D&C from 2001 until he retired. During that time, I was the managing editor and then in a new position, overseeing the creation of magazines like Rochester Magazine. When I took on that new role, Jim was a godsend in helping me to understand profit-and-loss statements, etc. I had some experience with newsroom expense budgets but not with the advertising side of the business. Jim was always so even-keeled about everything when others would be losing their heads – “the sky is falling!”. One time when I told him we needed to hire freelancers for a new publication, I distinctly remember him saying to me:: “We have to spend money, to make money!” Yes, indeed! Condolences to all the Paul family and all how loved him.
Thank you Jane! I remember when Dad retired. Gannett rented out Mario’s and flew the corporate jet from D.C. to Rochester and when we entered the room everyone was already partying. There must have been 200+ people. He was a Jedi master of where to find the money and a friend to all. I’m glad he was able to help and make such a lasting memory.
