Born in Saginaw, Michigan January 26,1937 to James B. and Caroline Freeman (Rankin). Moved to Chicago for a short while during WWII and then on to a Grand Rapids where he grew up.

Mr. Freeman was a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and then went on to the University of Michigan where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. He went on to earn his MBA from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. That is where he met his wife Cynthia Freeman (Bea). After marrying in Indianapolis, James took a job with Xerox and moved his family to Rochester, NY.  Their happiest times were spent at 86 Wheatstone Circlewhere they lived for 32 years. A simpler time, surrounded by great families this period was the formation of many meaningful relationships. His favorite place and magical times were summers spent in the summer on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix, Michigan. Fishing, boating, swimming, and taking his kids waterskiing filled those summer days.

Mr. Freeman worked until his retirement in 1996. Jim and Cindy took advantage of their time and had some great trips and adventures that included Australia, Italy, Israel, Europe and a cruise on the QEII. In 2001, they moved 1.5 miles to Columbia Court in Eagle Vale as Mom wanted Dad to be on one floor, just in case.  Cynthia passed away in 2004 from cancer.

Devoted husband and family man until the very end. He will be missed by his family and friends.

What a wonderful, wonderful neighbor. A very smart man who would always had you laughing only after he made you think it out. We will forever miss your cutting edge wit and humor! A sad loss of a great neighbor on Lake Charlevoix.

Jim, Cindy and their family were our neighbors on Lake Charlevoix. He was an intelligent, funny, sometimes stubborn and always kind man. We will miss his presence during our Michigan summers.

To all his family, we know what a loss this is for you. Your family has always been so close. Your Dad and Mom are together again and that should bring you peace. There is no place either would rather be.

We will miss him very much. How could we not?

To the Freeman Family, we send our most sincere and deepest condolences to you at this time. We heard Joe always speak so fondly of his wonderful and cherished memories in Lake Charlevoix with his family, and it certainly motivated us to visit someday to experience the joy created in that special area on the lake. We wish you well and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
