Scotty was born on 12/10/63 in Rochester, NY and son of Robert and Barbara Gates. He passed away on February 23, 2021.
Scotty graduated from Penfield High School and attended MCC where he majored in electronics. He worked at Gathering’s Catering (Daisy Flour Mill) for over 20 years and considered them extended family.
Scotty was such a kind soul with a huge heart and when he loved, he loved with his whole heart and it was forever.
Scotty had many passions, his favorites were reading his Bible, playing one of his many guitars and working on electronic projects. His projects included LED concert hats, designing and creating circuit boards and customizing his one-of-a-kind guitar which was custom made for him.
He also enjoyed his visits to Surfside Beach in South Carolina where he spent time with his parents, his daily walks, bowling, fishing and attending concerts.
Scotty leaves behind his parents Bob and Barb Gates, sister Wendy and Pete Lemen, sister Tracy Mortimer, nephew Jason Wittels, nieces Madison, Kennedy and Mackenzie Mortimer, cousins, Aunt’s and Uncles as well as several close friends.
Scotty was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Pittsford.
Contributions can be made in Scotty’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.

We miss you Scotty, today was hard but every day is right now. Rick and the boys made it a little easier they got out your hats and turned them all on and played your music, Jackson and Jason are playing your guitars and sending pics. Gatherings reached out and your friends from your meetings and they are missing you too. Your memory lives on with all you created and all who were near and dear to you. I hear your laughter and see you smiling little brother.
My sincerest sympathy goes out to Bob, Barb, Wendy and Tracy and all who knew Scotty.
Bobby I am so sorry, but am glad you spent these last few weeks with your son. I love the picture of the 2 of you this past winter.
Thank you Lorraine, that is my favorite picture of Scotty and Dad.
Scotty Rocker Gates was always one of my best friends. He, I and whoever was with would fill the air with laughter. I will miss our talks, concerts, and jamming out in the car. He was always a super hero to me!
Thank you Rick you were a super hero to Scotty too and to the rest of the family as well!
SCOTT we will miss you, the little boy with the chubby cheeks, who I remember lost his two front teeth to the man you became. Always a smile on your face, enjoying life no matter what obstacles were in your path! Favorite times we shared in recent years, walking the beach with you, listening to you playing the guitar (thought you and Dave would stay in the store forever), watching you trying to talk your Mom into cooking smelly crab legs in the condo, special times special memories! We love you and thanks for the memories nephew!
Love you! I remember cooking smelly crab legs in my hotel room, huge mistake, I think we all learned from that one.
To the Family of Scotty.
My husband had the brief pleasure of meeting and getting to know Scotty at our weekly meditation group. He showed me his sound system that he created one time which he really enjoyed. He was a special soul and we all enjoyed having him in our group. Prayers and blessings to all of you!
Thank you for the kind words Sue! Scotty told me all about his meditation classes. I love meditating and was so glad he joined. He had nothing but positive things to say about it.
I recently got to know Scotty through his interest in his electronic music and LED systems projects. He readily shared his good nature and passion. I’m happy our paths crossed and was sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers are with Scotty and his family.
Thank you for the kind words Bill! It means a lot to his family.
Bob and Barb, I just heard of the kids of your beloved son Scotty. It was a shock to me knowing I never met him. As a Christian, I know he is in the arms of his heavenly Jesus, playing his music with the angels. May God help you tthrough this sad time in your life and know you will see your Scotty again.
Thank you so much Dianna for the kind words, this means a lot to us!
Scotty used to Join use in our Salmon Acres sober event at Pulaski NY .He’d play his music and participate in our sober weekends. He was a kind soul and will be missed .Rest in Peace my friend , and know you were loved.
Thank you for sharing and for the kind words
Scotty was a wonderful person, AND guitarist. He had a warm and loving heart and made lots of friends during his years in the Nightingales. My favorite memory of Scotty was during one of the Sober Trips to the Salmon River. We would sit by the river and play guitar songs. He was worried that my guitar strings were too old and all, so he convinced me to drive an hour each way to Watertown, just so he could treat me to a new set of strings and put them on my guitar. He was a wonderful guy!!
Thank you for sharing Memories Peter it means a lot!
