Guglielmo, Donald W.

Donald W. Guglielmo “Don” passed away on May 27, 2020.  He lived his life well, enriching the lives of all who came to know him.  He was a devoted husband and a loving father.  He is survived by the love of life and wife of 65 years, Jane (Oczkowski);  children, Steven (Suzanne) Guglielmo, Donna (Robert) Patton, Diane (Timothy) Fortin, Kathy (Brian) Madrazo; seven treasured grandchildren: Kate, Matthew, Michael, Sarah, Mark, Emily and Thomas.

Don was born on November 2, 1933 in Utica, NY son of William and Mildred Guglielmo. Don was a veteran of the US Navy, serving for three years in the Seabees during the Korean War.  He was 19 years old and home on leave when he met the most beautiful woman in the world, Jane Oczkowski.  After marrying Jane, in 1954, he worked as a carpenter and then was employed by General Dynamics in Utica, NY.  While living in Utica, NY they welcomed their children Steven, Donna and Diane into their family. In 1965, the family relocated to the suburbs of Rochester, NY where Kathy was born.  Don was employed by Xerox, Inc. for over 20 years. He was a parishioner of Assumption of Our Lady in Fairport, NY.  Don spent his retirement years doing the things he loved; golfing, traveling, hunting, fishing, enjoying sports and helping his children with their home improvement projects.  He especially enjoyed vacationing with his family at the Outer Banks of NC.

Don was admitted to the Highlands Living Center in December 2016.  Due to Parkinson’s Disease his body was failing him, but he never lost his wit, hearty appetite, or desire to be with his wife and family.  The family is grateful for the wonderful care and compassion he received from his caregivers over the years.

Don will always be remembered as a man of unquestionable faith and love of the Lord, a gentleman, an outdoorsman, an avid sports fan, and his love for telling a joke. His greatest joy was being with his family, his blue eyes lit up whenever one of them was around.  He loved everyone he met and made sure to tell them in his final years.  He left his family with a treasure of wonderful memories and will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday May 15, 2021 10AM at Church of the Assumption, Fairport, NY. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, NY, NY 10018.

My deepest sadness to learn of Don’s passing. I will always treasure the countless hunting trips that Don, my father Bob (RIP 12/7/2019), my brother Garry, my brother in law Norm, his sons Eric and Bobby plus Steve made to Letchworth. Don was special. I am looking forward to his and my Dad’s hunting guidance in the years to come.
