Fairport: April 4, 2016 at age 92. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor (White); children, Cheryl (Garry) McGuire, Frederick Heier, Barbara (Douglas) Crawford, Cynthia (Paul) DeRusso, Nancy (Larry) Shabe and Peter (Traci) Heier; grandchildren, Garry and Michael McGuire, Jennifer Burton, Matthew Crawford, Katie and Michael DeRusso, Carrie and Joseph Shabe, Craig and Ellie Heier; great-grandchildren, Maximilien and Madison McGuire, Giana, Braydon and Brenna Crawford; sister, Marilyn Gunderson; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours Wednesday 3-7PM at Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford Palmyra Rd., Fairpon (Egypt Location). Funeral Mass Thursday 10AM at St. John of Rochester Church (Fairport). Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America or Charles Settlement House.

I grew up next-door to the Heier family in Brighton. Not only was Cherie my best friend (still is), but I spent many hours at their home and going places with their family. Mr. and Mrs. Heier were both very kind and taught me many things. One time when I was a Senior in high school, I had finagled someone older to buy me a 6 pack of beer for the weekend. I obviously couldn’t take it in my house, so I hid the bag underneath a huge pine tree in the Heier’s side yard, near our yard. I went to get it on Friday evening and it was gone. The next day Mr. Heier saw me and quietly said to me, “Thank you Chris for the beer. I found it when I was cutting the lawn.” I must have turned bright red I was so embarrassed. He never told my parents, but it made me feel so guilty I learned a lesson. Condolences from me and from my husband Joe and my brother Rob to the entire Heier family on the loss of a great husband, Dad, Granddad and Great Granddad. You will be missed.
