Hettlinger, Allen (Whitey)

Allen (Whitey) Hetlinger

Whitey passed away last week at age 79 at Thomson in Canandaigua. A fixture at Fingerlakes Racetrack for over 50 years, Whitey had worked mostly as a jockey’s agent (securing mounts in the afternoon races) but also put in some time as a racing secretary (decides what races are to be run) morning line oddsmaker, and the creator of the Wizard’s Tip Sheet. He spent his younger days in the off-season at Suffolk Downs (Boston) and Green Mountain Racetrack (Pownal, VT). He was a fixture in the back room at FL and was your go-to guy for information. Whitey could be found after the races at DiPacifics in Farmington, and after they sold to CVS, Mickey Finns in Victor. A service is being planned for April at the track.
