Fairport – With heavy heart we will miss him but with smiles we will celebrate him. Kel passed away at the age of 86 in Fairport, New York on February 9th, 2018 at the Fairport Baptist Home where he had been a patient for five months. His wife Joanne who Kel called Joey or “my bride” was by his side. Kel’s love of adventure began when he was very young. His Father was in the Foreign Service and Kel first went to school in Norway, speaking only Norwegian. At the age of 9 there was an abrupt departure from Norway just as the Germans were parachuting from the sky early in WWII. Led by his Mother and walking many miles, they made their way to a safe haven. All the while, Kel thought it was a great adventure. Eventually, they returned to America where his mother sent him to a camp in the Adirondacks, with the instruction to “Americanize him.” Later he lived in Ann Arbor and as a young man moved to Toronto. While living there, Kel met, wooed and married Joanne. They were married just shy of 61 loving and happy years. Kel was a successful heavy equipment salesman and found his own company selling industrial fasteners. He was an avid bicyclist and skier, leading groups for the Rochester Museum. He was very involved with his family and friends, Fairport Masonic Lodge 476, Grotto, Antique Bottle Club, Perinton Men’s Club and the Kelsey Kindred. He served on several boards and committees at the First Congregational Church in Fairport.
He was predeceased by his son Jeff. He is survived by his loving wife and son John, beloved daughter-in-law Marlene, grandchildren Stephen, Lauren, her fiancé Constantine and Sasha.
Kel will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and wit which he has passed on to his loving children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank our wonderful friends who have helped us through this difficult time and to the caring staff on Floor 2H of the Baptist Home and Lifetime Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held in the spring. Donations can be made in his honor to the First Congregational Church, 26 East Church Street, Fairport, NY 14450 or to Lifetime Hospice Care, 3111 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14623.

To The Family,
Death remains an enemy of all mankind. However, the Bible does provide hope for all mankind. God’s Word, the Bible states, ” For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.” By dying Mr. Kelsey has paid the wages of being a sinner, but when the Lord Jesus awakens him from the sleep of death, (John 11:11-14) sin will be a thing of the past and Mr. Kelsey will have the precious opportunity of possibly living forever.(John 17:3) I know that you are hurting, but I hope that these scriptural facts will strengthen and comfort you at this most difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Terry Sterling
Joanne,
As one of Kel’s cyclist friends with the Museum Sunday AM rides and the Perinton Thursday am rides, Kel was a mentor to many as we traveled the hills and valleys of Monroe County (even into Pennsylvania in Ontario County). As a Leader, Kel was often asked at the beginning of the ride “are there any hills” his standard reply was there was no hills just “minor undulations”. Thank you for sharing Kel with us as he leaves many memories with his cyclist friends.
