Scott Robert Perkins passed peacefully on Friday, July 10th, while fighting complications from a stroke he suffered the previous week. Born in 1950 in Calicoon, NY, to Ellen (Webber) Perkins and Donald E. “Don” Perkins, Scott lived a life of passion and enthusiastic discovery.

A graduate of SUNY Geneseo and a widely regarded member of the Rochester business community, Scott’s many adventures saw him work in his younger years as a race track announcer and Assistant Public Relations and Publicity Director at Vernon Downs, radio DJ at WHPA in Honesdale, PA, television newscaster for WSYR Syracuse, and finally an advertising and marketing executive for companies around Rochester. In 1989, after years working as the Special Assistant to the President of Gannett Foundation, Scott struck out on his own and founded his own agency – Agility Communications Group, LLC – which he ran until his passing.

Scott’s interests were wide-ranging and fervently explored. Whether it was his work as a member of Rotary, as a Director for the Rochester Hearing & Speech Center, or as a consultant to friends and colleagues, Scott devoted his whole self to the cause, mentoring people throughout his career. His love for history led him to devote countless hours to museums and foundations around the area, most recently for the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport and the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo.

A lifelong lover of cars and animals alike, Scott inherited a love of horses from his parents, who were involved in standardbred breeding, training, and racing their entire lives. Scott’s own ventures in the equine world resulted in decades of involvement as an active member and winning competitor in the New York Palomino Exhibitors Association and Empire State Quarter Horse Association, delving into Western Pleasure, Trail, and English riding.

Scott is survived by his partner Carol Irwin, sister Sarah Perkins Covell, sons Mike D. Perkins and William J. Perkins, nephew Adrian Bosarge, niece Keturah Reedhead, all their respective families, and a long list of friends and colleagues. A private memorial and remembrance will be scheduled. Condolences may be sent to Carol Irwin, 22 Nobleman Ct Fairport, NY 14450. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you wear a mask and donate to the ASPCA

Scott was a loyal friend. He always found a way to involve his network in his ventures while helping them. A very sad, too early passing. My prayers and sincere sympathy.

Scott was a kind man, always with a smile on his face and a wonderful chuckle. He could move in circles of influence with the best of them, And if anyone can convince St. Peter to widen the Gates of Heaven so that he can get in, it would be Scott. Rest peacefully Scott.

Scott was a great idea guy and a good friend. He always came to a lunch, meeting or phone call with something to offer. You could see the ideas swirling around him, and you knew one of them probably would work for you or your cause. He was a warm, kind man with a ready laugh and I am thankful to have been a friend.

Worked with Scott on many, many projects including several “Going The Extra Mile” columns for the Rochester Daily Record. Always a gentleman and a scholar he was one of the best to work with. He will be greatly missed in Rochester’s marketing/advertising/public relations world.

Startled. The only word that can describe my reaction to this sad news. Such a strong, vibrant, and funny man. We started a friendship many years ago at Winterkorn, Hammond, and Lillis. While our paths diverged over the years, we always managed to stay in touch, generally meeting on occasion at Nick’s seabreeze inn. A sensitive guy with an upbeat demeanor. Loved his family. I will keep him in my heart. Those who live in our hearts never die.

I met Scott on the first day of our freshman year in college and we were immediate friends, ultimately roommates in school and after and then neighbors in Irondequoit. We had many experiences together and always he was loyal, thoughtful, funny, interesting and generous. He would and did fight to have my back. It was my absolute honor to have him as a friend. I am so very sorry he didn’t get more time and deeply saddened at the loss. We both loved the movie Butch/Sundance and always ended our conversations with a quote from it. One last time old friend – “I never met a soul more affable than you Butch”.

When in high school at Churchville Chili Central, Scott was my middle brother, Dick Moore’s best friend. I was glad because Scott was always the warm and kind hearted sort; my fragile early teen boy ego felt safe in his company. Scott and Dick were adventurers and sometimes they let me tag along. I was just halfway through my freshman year at Geneseo when Scott was graduating. He kindly handed me the keys to the studio apartment he’d been renting on Main Street for just $67.00 a month. It was such a nice respite from dorm life. Like so many others, I have fond memories of Scott’s wonderful sense of humor and that laugh of his that seemed to come from deep down inside him. It was such a good laugh that brightened space and lightened hearts. My heart is broken as I write. I haven’t seen Scott for a few years and I was really hoping I could be in his company again. My condolences to Carol and all Scott’s kin. .

I was shocked and so sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. I met Scott when he and Carol became partners. We had many wonderful visits and dinners at the Park Avenue Pub. It was at these dinners that I learned just how intelligent, witty, experienced, and compassionate Scott was. I will miss him. Rest in Peace, Scott.
