Glen lived an incredibly full life.  After graduating High School in 1955, Glen joined the navy where he was 3rd Class Radarman aboard the USS Brownson 868 which was a Gearing Class Destroyer.  Following his enlistment in the Navy, Glen worked as a store manager at Loblaw’s until 1966.  Glen met Marilyn while working at Loblaw’s. They married in 1960 and in 1961 began building their home and family in Fairport.

Glen had always had a green thumb.  In 1963 the couple began planting Douglas Fir Trees, continuing to plant each year until they had 8,000 trees. They also planted pumpkins which, in  addition to the trees, helped pay for college for their children. At this point Glen started his career in real estate initially working as an agent for 2 years.  Once he earned his Real Estate Broker License he opened his own office; Glen E. Peters Realtors.  His agency thrived, at one time employing up to 22 sales representatives.

In 1996 he chose to retire and sell his business, however he continued to consult in the Real Estate field. Now he had time to focus on his true passion: Cruising.  During their marriage Glen and Marilyn have been on a total of 89 cruises, including 12 World Cruises. In addition to cruising for pleasure, he and Marilyn consulted and escorted cruises for the Van Zile Travel Service.

Cruising around the world was not the only way Glen kept busy during retirement.  He sold cut flowers and mums at the Fairport Public market, which was something he used to do with his Dad, Orlo.  Glen was an avid outdoorsman, he grew up camping and passed that love onto his children and grandchildren. For over 70 years he has camped at Fish Creek Ponds Campground. He will be greatly missed by everyone in his life.

I never met Mr. Peters in person, but we talked weekly on the telephone during the 1970’s when I was an Ad Representative at the Democrat and Chronicle in the 1970’s and he was my customer. It would get pretty hectic on Thursdays (deadline day for Real Estate Sunday ads). Mr. Peters would dictate his real estate ads over the phone and I would type them. He was always pleasant, courteous and kind. I would read the ad back to him. After awhile, he said “You don’t have to read it back to me, Sue, you always get it exactly right”. He was my favorite customer. Condolences to his family.

We have known Glen and Marilyn for many years. We met at a campground in Florida. After that year we would often get together for dinner and cards during the summer or fall before heading to Florida for the winter. One year Glen told us to bring our passports and cruising clothes and he would try to get us a cheap Caribbean cruise during the winter. Sure enough he did and we sailed out of Miami. What a great time we all had. Another fall we took a river cruise with them and another couple. We got to Budapest and Glens bags didn’t come. He borrowed some of Ed’s clothes, Ed being a much smaller man. In more resent years we have joined them at the Theater Organ concerts here in Rochester and then out to dinner. We have always enjoyed both Glen and Marilyn’s company and will miss him dearly..

  7. Randy and I truly loved Glen. We were close buddies as we active in the Perinton Chamber of Commerce in the 1990’s…..seems like yesterday.

We were fortunate to join Glen and Marilyn and their leadership on a cruise.
I loved, what I remember fondly, his playing what I thought of as ‘follow the leader’ during such, taking the stress off of us!

I worked together on the Perinton Assessment review board. We jokingly reminded the appraisers on Board; we, as Realtors, set the market prices they used to establish appraised values!.
His trust in me, to represent a few of his clients upon his real estate retirement, was priceless to me.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Marilyn and the entire family.
A life well lived. We loved him for it.

Randy and I raise up heartfelt condolences Marilyn to you and your entire family.
    We loved Glen.
He and I served the Perinton Chamber of Commerce for years in the 1990’s; seems like yesterday!
The Chamber sponsoring the Party in the (Perinton) Park/Parade on the 4th of July yearly was our most fun effort during our volunteering for years with the Chamber..
The Chamber started Village Days which has now become the popular Canal Days!.

He and I sat on the Perinton Town Assessment Review Board …jokingly reminding fellow Board members (the appraisers), that we, as Realtors* estalished the market values. It was never same after his term ended.
I cherish the fact that he entrusted ‘me’ with several clients after his retirement; it still warms my heart.

But the most fun Randy and I had!! … was following, what I refer to jokingly as ‘playing follow the leader’ as Glen and Marilyn took the stress off of us as we joined their cruises.

Truly a gentleman, smart man, fun guy…He will be missed…a life well lived.

With love Randy & Wendy Callin

To Marilyn, Deb, Kevin, and all the rest of your family members. My deepest condolences. ❤️
Some of my favorite memories are of the cruise we all went on together. He was the commander of our crew. The DOF (director of Fun). There were family parties and camping at Fish Creek.
    I will remember him fondly!
