Rochester – Edward Bernard Smith, age 88, died October 3rd, 2019, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Affectionately known as “Boo”, Bernard is survived by loving family and friends. He leaves behind those lucky enough to enjoy his wit, storytelling, and a love of music, plants, antiques, romantic comedies, Christmas (with or without that perfect Christmas tree), a weekly Wegman’s run, and evening beer. Each of those moments of adventure, sharing, and joy will be missed by us all. Each of us will enjoy that Toby jug, Sunday paper, piece of cake, or nightly beer just a bit more.

Bernard is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a medical assistant and traveled to France and Libya. He grew up in Rochester, son of Edward Shauber and Mary McManus Shauber. After leaving the armed forces, Bernard lived in New Orleans, eventually settled in Washington, D.C., working with the Army Navy Club for near twenty years. Retirement brought him home to the Rochester area where he enjoyed having the chance to reconnect with family.

No services will be held at this time. Bernard will be interred at White Haven Memorial Park, Pittsford, New York. Plans for a future memorial service will be held at the convenience of family. Memorial donations may be made in Bernard’s name to the Boy’s & Girl’s Clubs of America.
