Dr. Frank Y. Tang, a retired scientist and attorney passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023 at the age of 79.

Born May 16, 1944 in Shanghai, China, he was a long-time resident of Perinton, New York.

Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Ziang-Tsien Tang (1917-1998) and Lynn Chen Tang (1917-2012), Frank is survived by his wife of 53 years, Loretta Tang (née Liang), his son, David (Olena) Tang, grandsons James Tang and Nicholas Tang, brother, Henry Tang, sister, Lillian (Stanley) Tang Wine, niece, Penelope (Benjamin) August, and nephew, Jonathan Tang Wine.

A graduate of Cornell University 1966, Frank researched and taught biochemistry at the University of Rochester. A lifelong learner, Frank earned a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law 1988 and was admitted to the New York Bar. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (Beltsville, MD), whose programs protect American agricultural and natural resources and ensure abundant national food supply. 

Frank was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He enjoyed the outdoors, photography, reading (especially scientific articles), birding, the Yankees, tennis, figure skating, collecting books and maintaining multiple, antique compact cars. In retirement, he relished family vacations in Maine, learned to fly fish, shared his passion for trout fishing with his grandsons, took his first piano lessons and could be found practicing up to an hour a day, while learning J.S. Bach’s Inventions, short, two-part contrapuntal compositions for keyboard. 

Visitation is scheduled for October 27, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 28, 2023 at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road, Fairport, NY. Please do a kind deed for someone as a memorial. Donations can be offered to Ethical Culture Fieldston School (New York, NY), Northfield Mount Hermon School (Mount Hermon, MA) or Cornell University (Ithaca, NY).
