Fairport: Passed away June 24th at age 84. Predeceased by his parents, Earl and Mary Zimmerman; brothers, Robert (Ann) and Merle (Norma). He is survived by his wife, Helen; Son, Paul (Stacey) and
daughter, Dian (Kirk): three grandchildren and brother, Donald (Cleo).
Born in Homell, NY, Stan graduated from Riverside HS in Buffalo, served in the Navy and graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1958. After teaching on Long Island and receiving his Masters Degree from Hofstrau University, he and Helen located in Fairport, NY where he was the Director of Guidance at BOCES #1, Fairport, from 1966 until his retirement in 1992.
Stan’s interests and talents were numerous. He loved sports, having played soccer in college and he and his family enjoyed skiing, tennis, golf and cheering on the Syracuse University Basketball team. He enjoyed traveling and he and Helen traveled all 50 states and made several trips to Europe. Music was a big part of his life. He sang tenor in the A Cappella Choir at college, Barbershop Chorus and Quartet in Florida where he and his wife lived for 13 years. They returned to Fairport and he played trombone and tuba most recently with the Penfield Pops Band.
An avid woodworker and craftsman, he designed and constructed furniture pieces and was an admirer of the Adirondack Twig Style. He created many large stained glass pieces as well.
Friends may call at the Richard H. Keenan Funeral Home, 7501 Pittsford-Palmyra Road on July 9th, 5-7 PM. A brief memorial service will follow. The family will gather in private and his ashes will be scattered in
the Adirondacks. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to the Shepherd Home, 1959 Five Mile Line Rd. in Penfield or your favorite musical organization. His favorites were the RPO, Third Presbyterian Church Music Fund, Penfield Pops Band and the Penfield Symphony Orchestra.
