Pittsford – August 14, 1926 – January 23, 2018.

 

 

Passed away peacefully at the age of 91 with family members by his side on January 23, 2018. Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife Marieta, and eldest son A. Scott. He is survived by his youngest son Craig, Daughter-In-Law Cathie (Wainwright) Carey, Sister-In-Law Marion Tallman, and Grandchildren Adam & Sybil (Prince) Carey, Allison Carey and Jon Carey (Maday Martinez).

Alan graduated from Syracuse University, with a BS in Accounting with tenures as an insurance company accountant and special agent before becoming the Corporate Risk and Insurance Manager for Eastman Kodak Company, where he served for 25 years before retiring.

Alan was extremely community minded and a  proud US Army Air Corp veteran who served in World War II.  Alan devoted time to the Boy Scouts of America, as well as his church, Browncroft Community Church where he was a member and deacon for over 50 years.

He was a past President and/or board member of local organizations such as the Kidney Foundation of Genesee Valley, (instrumental in establishing one of the first dialysis clinics in the Rochester, NY area) The Rochester Eye and Human Parts Bank, Perinton Ambulance, Rochester Regional Hospital Corporation, Monroe Community Hospital, Regional Hospital Services, Inc., End Stage Renal Task Force, The Human Investigation Committee of Highland Hospital, The National Warplane Museum, as well as Flower City Habitat for Humanity where he was a member of the “Saw and Hammer Club” working on 53 homes while acting as their Insurance Manager.

Mr. Carey was awarded the President’s Award from Flower City Habitat for Humanity and he was awarded the ESL Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2007.

Calling hours Saturday, February 3, 2018  2-4 pm at Richard H Keenan Funeral Home 7501 Pittsford -Palmyra Rd. (Egypt location) Fairport.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Flower City Habitat for Humanity, 755 Culver Road, Rochester, NY 14609.
