William Joseph (Bill) Krieg of Fairport, NY passed away peacefully on April 4, 2020 in Fairport, following an illness of many months. His wife, Kathleen and his granddaughter, Kendall were with him.

Bill was born February 8, 1946 in Jamestown, NY, the son of Charles E. and Mary J. Gaeta Krieg. He grew up in Falconer, NY and was a 1964 graduate of Falconer Central School. He was his class’s president and valedictorian. In 1967, Bill was a Phi Beta Kappa Honor graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. Later, as a member of the university’s alumni association, he founded the Krieg Family Memorial Scholarship to assist students from NY State attending Pitt-Bradford.

His career years were with Eastman Kodak Co. Except for the years he served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, he worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY, and later in England, France, and China. From 1967-1970 he served in the United States Army Military Intelligence Corps.

Bill took care of his loved ones in so many ways, and loved gathering family together for breakfasts whenever he came back to Falconer. He and his (late) wife arranged a trip to take his mother to Sicily to visit her family in the village from which her parents emigrated. In the Rochester area, Bill had an abiding faith and was active in his church and in community organizations, including the Lions’ Club and American Legion. He was a member of the St. John Fisher Council #3676 of the Knights of Columbus. St. Jerome’s Church in East Rochester was his home parish.

For many years he enjoyed running and completed several marathons. One year, he also completed the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii. Golfing and trips on his motorcycle with friends were special times.

He was predeceased by his father in 1978 and his mother in 2000. His wife, Kathleen MacDonald Krieg, died in 1987. He is survived by his current wife, Kathleen Roll Krieg, and his beloved granddaughter, Kendall; a sister, Mary Short (John) of Jamestown, NY; and brothers, David (Kathy) Krieg of Falconer, NY, and Dr. Stephen (Celeste) Krieg of Plattsburgh, NY as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews. (Love you, Uncle Bill!)

Through this difficult time of pandemic, the family appreciates and honors the innumerable family members and friends who have already reached out to them, and the “Bill Stories” that they have shared! For the loving nursing care given through the Fairport Baptist Home and Lifetime Hospice Services, we are deeply grateful.

Father William Leone of St. Jerome’s Parish led a private graveside service, with military honors, for the immediate family. Inurnment was held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be held Saturday July 17 9AM-10AM at St. Jerome’s Church, East Rochester and the Memorial Service will be held at 10AM.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Krieg Family Memorial Scholarship at: Pitt-Bradford- Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement; 300 Campus Drive; Bradford, PA 16701, or to: St. John Fisher Council #3676 Knights of Columbus: c/o St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield St., East Rochester, NY 14445.

Although Bill was a newer member of ER American Legion Post 1917, in that rather short time, he impressed us all with his friendliness, quality of character and devotion to country. He was indeed, an outstanding man.

Bill was a wonderful longtime friend and classmate to us. We will always remember our fun times together. His heart was as big as the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. He left this world too soon. He has his wings and is at peace.

Bill will be ondly remembeed as a neighbor, co-worker, running mate of my late husband Gary. They logged many miles together in weekend runs and many marathons. It was an honor to have called Bill a friend for many years. May he rest in peace…
