Zoppoth, Julia Isabel

Julia Isabel Zoppoth, age 86, of Penfield, NY passed away at home on November 19, 2023.  She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Zoppoth and brother John Wansor.  Julia was born in London England, grew up in Bournemouth and then immigrated with her family to the United States during World War Two. She graduated from Hunter College with a BS Botany and worked at the New York Botanical Garden performing research on the effect of radiation on bio-organisms.  She was an avid proponent of early education in public schools, volunteering in the Fairport Central School District library.

Julia had strong interest in horticulture and supporting local wildlife within her own back yard.  She had expansive gardens, with a stream and wetlands that sustained a variety of animals and birds.  She had an exceptional fondness for cats which stems from her early childhood where she would feed stray cats in her neighborhood in England.  This commitment continued through adulthood where she supported would provide food for cats and was known to have successfully rescued several felines.

A family-oriented mother and grandmother she assisted in providing care for her grandchildren throughout their early childhood years.  Julia frequently brought her grandchildren to pre-school, the library and recreation activities.

She is survived by her daughter Monica Manske, grand daughters Ciara Manske and Colleen Manske, and her brother David Wansor, as well as many niece and nephews.  As per Julia’s final request no funeral or memorial service will be held.  In lieu of flower or cards, memorial donations may be made to Lollypop Farm.
